Vestry's Underground Lake (ヴェストリの地底湖, Vu~esutori no Chitei Mizūmi) is a littoral cave from which a waterfall falls from all side, making it the most prominent site in the town of Vestry.

History[]

Six to four years before the first war games, a Caldean outlaw named Phantom fell in love with a Vestrian sailor girl named Alma, frequently visited her and they began a romantic relationship.

Unlike Phantom, Alma valued human potential and mortality, so after he received the Zombie Tattoo from Diana, they had a fight over their beliefs on humanity and immortality in the cave. Alma ended their argument by telling Phantom he would never be more than he already was, and left him with Peta in the cave of Vestry. Phantom would never see her alive again.

First Great MÄR Heaven War[]

Unbeknownst to Phantom, Alma had taken possession of the Purific Ave after their fight, making her a target of the Chess Pieces once the war began. Commanded by the King, Chess Pieces used a Dimension ÄRM to teleport the ship that Alma and many of her crewmates sailed on to the interior of the cave and sealed them off. In death, the souls of Alma and her crewmates were cursed to perpetually haunt the cave as ghosts, only to be set free if the ghost ship they were bound were to return to the ocean.

Six-Year Interlude[]

After the war ended, rumors began to spread of a powerful ÄRM waiting to be found within the cave, prompting many people and thieves like Nanashi to visit and explore the cave. Ultimately, they would never find it, as it seemingly was kept safe by the ghosts that dwelt within.

Second Great MÄR Heaven War[]

In the second war, the Chess Pieces sent two Bishops, Girom and Orco, back to Vestry to destroy the town and retrieve the mysterious ÄRM in the cave, but Team MÄR (namely Ginta, Dorothy, and Nanashi) went in after them. When Gargoyle destroyed the cave's rock wall, freeing the ghosts, Alma materialized and gave Ginta the Purific Ave in gratitude.

MÄR Heaven: KNOCKIN' ON HEAVEN'S DOOR[]

The Underground Lake serves as one of the last locations to visit within the game, and clearing it will give access to the three doors found within the Goldsmith's Cave.
