The Undersea Volcanic Cave (海底火山洞, Kaitei Kazandō) is a cave network beneath the seabed that connects Aunt Island and Torneå Island.

Overview[]

The cave is a vast network of passages filled with magma and connects two of the islands in the archipelago. In years past, it was seemingly used by humans, as a few small man-made structures such as stairs and pillars are found in the caves.

Team MÄR returns to the Aunt Island Investigation Team's campsite, the young witch and little girl who previously gave them Claydon Seeds approach them to inform them of the lake next to the camp suddenly draining into a cave entrance that opened up. Dorothy speculates the cave extends under the seabed and will lead them to Torneå Island. After weighing the possibilities of it being a trap, the team ultimately decides to try the cave passage.

Unbeknownst to MÄR, a mysterious figure appears in the shadows of the cave and whispers to Izune to come over to her. Izune wanders off, with Snow and Dorothy going after the little fox. Suddenly, a huge boulder appears and seals the girls off from the rest of the team. The boulder is filled with a magic power that Dorothy recognizes, and it takes no damage or even scratches from attacks. Both groups are forced to try another route from their sides to reunite. Ginta becomes frustrated, but is able to clear his head and become motivated thanks to Nanashi's pep talk.

Eventually, Ginta's group encounters Wheat in the lower levels of the cave. Since they assumed she was responsible for Dorothy, Snow, and Izune being separated from them, Jack uses his Earth Scoop to directly smack her in the gut. Ginta rushes to stop him further, as he notices that she hasn't the will to fight with them. Wheat mentions that while she knows who is responsible, she refuses to go along with "her" agenda due to wanting to battle with Ginta fair-and-square, and instructs them which path to take to reunite with their friends. She also teleports to Snow's location and uses her Holy ÄRM to alleviate Snow's fatigue, and then proceeds further in the cave at the battleground to wait for Ginta.

Gotchi's Change

Gotchi shows his true self for the first time.

By the time MÄR reaches her, she is holding her head in excruciating pain. Realizing something is wrong, they attempt to separate Gotchi from her, but he suddenly becomes malicious and possesses her, speaking together in sync. Ginta and Babbo battle and narrowly defeat them, enabling Wheat to regain a small amount of control. She manages to tell Ginta to "go above the clouds" before Gotchi takes over her again and teleport away.

Strategy Guide[]

The Undersea Volcanic Cave is the largest dungeon in the game, though it is relatively simple to get through. It is divided into two halves, the first being done without the girls in your party, which requires reworking one of your decks that that it only contains the boys' ÄRMs. This is a prime opportunity to level Alan up if you haven't already, as the cave's field attribute is fire.

Upon reuniting with Snow, Dorothy, and Izune, you will gain access to the second half of the dungeon, as well as an easy shortcut back to the beginning of the cave via a Wormhole. Use this shortcut to your advantage to restock on any items you need, head back into the cave, and through both Wormholes that Wheat provided to you, starting the second half.

Dragon-Gem Puzzle

When solved correctly, the dragon-head will shoot a magic fireball.

The second portion of the caves has a puzzle with a peculiar dragon-head statue protruding from the wall and three holes in the wall perpendicular to it. To solve it, you must backtrack to the previous room and go to three other paths that branch off, leading you to pedestals with gems on them. Retrieve each of these gems, head back to the dragon-head room, and insert each gem into the holes. The correct order of them from left to right is: black gem, purple gem, and red gem. If you get the order wrong, the gems will move back to the pedestals they were originally found on, and you'll have to go fetch them all over again.

Once you solve the puzzle, you'll engage in a boss fight against Wheat, and then be able to move on towards the exit. This will take you outside on the east side of Torneå Island. The Torneå Island Investigation Camp is located on the southwestern edge of the island, so head there and one of the wizards near the entrance will have a Wormhole set up, leading to the gates of Caldea Town.
