Personality Edit

Maira is a black-cloaked masked man who takes pleasure in engulfing and digesting people with Vaqua.

Plot Edit

Pre-War Games Edit

In the anime, Maira, presumably a Pawn, is seen searching for the legendary ÄRM Vaqua, when suddenly a Cross Guard shows up and attacks him. Maira nearly dies, and only survives once he finds Vaqua, using it to defeat the Cross Guard. It is for this that Maira became a Bishop.

War Games Edit

Maira is first seen watching the War Game battle between Ginta Toramizu and Garon. During the second round of the War Games, Maira reappears as a fighter for the Chess Pieces. He has the last of the battles in that round, and goes up against Dorothy.

Maira is quick to falsely judge Dorothy's power, though he easily destroys one of her weaker Guardians and outfights another. When Loco sees Dorothy narrow her eyes, she realizes that it is like Diana's. Diana is also seen, saying, "If that's Dorothy, then that black-hooded man is nothing." Dorothy calls back Brikin to bring about her favorite, Toto, which eats Maira's Vaqua.

Maira, now ÄRM-less, begs Dorothy for mercy. Dorothy however, doesn't do as such and has Toto suck Maira into the vortex in its mouth, making Maira the first casualty of the War Games. This causes Ginta to ask her not to kill in the following Rounds.

ÄRM Edit

Maira's ÄRM are:

  • ??? (anime): A weapon Ärm in the form of a scyth wielded by most Pawns, which Maira discarded after obtaining Vaqua.
  • Vaqua (Bakyua): A Guardian ÄRM in the form of a giant blob of slime with one eye. The blob will digest anything it swallows up into its body, such as ÄRM or even enemies themselves, and will regenerate from any damage. It is destroyed by Dorothy's Toto, although Dorothy was hoping to add it to her collection.

  • The cloak is vastly different in effect in the anime and manga. In the anime, it is given a mirage-like appearance; and the manga a shifting mass of darkness.
