Jack (ジャック, Jakku) is a young farm boy from Pazurika Island and a member of Team MÄR.
Appearance[]
Jack is the spitting image of his father, inheriting the same eyes, short spikey black hair, bushy eyebrows, and whisker markings on both cheeks. He wears a forest green tank-top tucked into dark khaki pants fastened together with a belt and cuffed at the bottom, meeting his shoes at the ankles.
Jack's looks have lead to several people to refer to him as a "monkey".
Personality[]
Despite being the weakest and the one with the least experience on Team MÄR, he is the most resolute. Whenever he is offered the chance to grow stronger he eagerly accepts it even knowing the hardships that he will endure. He also has a tendency to develop hopeless crushes on cute girls, opponents or otherwise.
Etymology[]
Jack is directly based on the titular character of the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, which is part of a collection of known as "Jack Tales". Unlike moralizing fairy heroes, the English stock character Jack is often lazy or foolish, but emerges triumphant through wit and trickery, resembling the trickster or rebel archetypes. In contrast, MÄR's Jack lacks strong intellect but makes up for it with hard work.
History[]
Jack was born and raised on his parents' family farm on Pazurika Island. His father, Jake, was a skilled plant manipulator, and he would teach Jack everything he knew about botany.
First Great MÄR Heaven War[]
One day, while his father was teaching him the most efficient way of pulling weeds, a family friend named Gaira appeared to Jake with an arm injury. The family bring him into the home to treat him, and he informs them of the great ongoing war throughout MÄR Heaven. Showing an image of Yggdrasil, Gaira asks Jake to come with him to Lestava, as his strength and botanical expertise was crucial in dealing with the indestructible tree. Jake steps outside to think over his decision when Jack meets up with him. Knowing that his eight year old son had no understanding of what war was, Jake tells him he might go on a journey far away for a while and that he must protect his mother and the farm while he's gone. Jack happily accepts the responsibility and his mother joins them outside, voicing support towards the decision.
Just before leaving the house, Jake told his wife if Jack ever tries to become a man while he's gone to give him encouragement in his place.
After the War Games[]
Later a messenger came by their house and told them of Jake's death. He also gave him his father's ÄRM, the Battle Scoop, which he fought with in the war. Jack looks up at his mother confused, and she hugs her son sorrowfully. Jack then understood what happened, and cried.
Six-Year Interlude[]
Five years after the end of the war, the Rogelu Brothers took advantage of Jake's absence and began visiting the farm regularly to devour most of their crops. Jack would try to stop them, but every attempt failed due to his lack of courage, and the brothers would continue their pillage for a year.
One evening, Jack and his mother hear noises in their fields in front of the house. Jack assumes it's the werewolves again and angrily ignores his mother's protests to confront the brothers, only to be shocked that it's a strangely dressed boy and a talking ÄRM. They invite the two into their home as a show of hospitality, and offer many of their homegrown vegetables. Ginta and Babbo introduce themselves, and Jack is dumbfounded at Ginta's claim of coming from a parallel world while creeped out that Babbo is a living ÄRM. Suddenly they hear howling from a distance, and Jack informs Ginta about the Rogelu Brothers, which fascinates him. Jack angrily replies that there's nothing "cool" about them, and Ginta realized his insensitivity as Jack spoke more about them. His mother voiced passiveness about the situation, as there was nothing that could really be done and she wouldn't be able to replace her son like they could the crops. Frustrated with his own powerlessness, Jack runs outside to cool off.
While Jack works in the fields the next day, Ginta offers to handle the werewolves for Jack, but he declines with the intent of overcoming his own cowardice. Ginta tries to argue but Babbo interjects, voicing support for Jack's reasoning. And so, at night, Jack checked to see if his mother and Ginta were sound asleep then proceeded outside to confront the duo. The brothers taunt Jack but he holds his ground while his legs shake before charging at them with his wooden pole and plow. Garu throws a punch at Jack to push him back and continues to taunt him, but Jack gets back up to try again. The result repeats itself, and Garu says that since he needs Jack to keep growing the vegetables he won't kill him, but will kill his mother instead as a lesson. Enraged, Jack discards his farming tools and activates his Weapon ÄRM, Battle Scoop. He swings it horizontally and breaks off some of Garu's front teeth. Garu snaps and decides to kill both Jack and his mother, throwing many punches at him but Jack defends himself with his Battle Scoop. Garu manages to land an uppercut punch and send Jack flying.
Ruga walks over and reminds his brother not to kill Jack, before tossing in another vegetable into his mouth. However, Ruga's teeth break upon biting down, revealing that Babbo had been in the field the entire time disguised as one of the vegetables. Babbo angrily lunges forward into Ruga's gut, and compliments Jack on his manly bravery. Ginta yells out to announce his presence on the rooftop of the house, before slipping and falling off. Ginta tells Jack that he and Babbo had planned to assist since sundown, and reasoned that if there's two werewolves then there should be two of them as well to make it even. Ruga gets up and Ginta demands that they apologize to Jack and permanently leave. The brothers refuse, prompting Ginta to take them on. Ginta throws Babbo at Ruga and pushes him back once more, before swinging Babbo's enlarged hammer down on Garu. Jack watches in awe as Garu frustratingly swings his claws repeatedly at Ginta, who dodges each swipe with ease. Ginta declares that the two brothers are the real cowards, before dealing one last blow to Garu. Ruga attempts to make a surprise attack on Ginta, but is hit in the face by Jack's Battle Scoop, knocking him out as well. Jack realizes that his legs were no longer shaking from fear, and gained confidence in acknowledgement that he (with Ginta and Babbo) defeated the Rogelu Brothers. Babbo then proceeds to knock out their remaining fangs and claws and chases them away from the farm. Dawn approaches, and Jack thanks Ginta, when suddenly his mother runs out to him and slaps him across the face. She scolds him over his recklessness before motioning to strike him again. Jack shrieks, but then sees she's unable to do it, as she's overwhelmed with relief that he was safe in the end. They embrace in happy tears, grateful that they still have each other.
After another full day of rest and decompressing, Jack comes outside to tell Ginta and Babbo that lunch was ready. Ginta, who was in deep thought, asked Jack what the name of this world was. Jack tells him it was called MÄR Heaven, which helped him comprehend that Ginta was indeed from a parallel world and proceeded to ask Ginta many questions about his home and how he came to MÄR Heaven. Jack concludes that Ginta must've come through the door of a very powerful Dimension ÄRM. Ginta spoke of his intent to go on a journey to search for a way back home, and Babbo declares Ginta to be his escort in his own personal quest for his lost memories. They comically fight each other, and Jack comments that going on a journey sounded nice but felt tied down to the farm and his mother. After lunch, Jack's mother gives Ginta a new set of clothes to wear and tells him to take Jack with him on the journey. She assures Jack that she'll be fine while he's away, and desires that he help Ginta just like he helped them. With his mother's support, Jack sets off with Ginta and Babbo.
Jack spends the first two days of the journey with them discussing Babbo's uniqueness and his own dream of growing a beanstalk that would grow high into the sky one day. They then arrive in Pazu Town with the intent of going window shopping for Dimension ÄRMs that could potentially take Ginta home. They visit three different vendors, the third recognizing Ginta's description as the Gatekeeper Clown. She tells the boys that such a power ÄRM wouldn't be lying around in a shop to be sold, thus they leave with Ginta feeling lucky to have a fun challenge of acquiring it.
Suddenly the boys are ambushed by several bandits who steal Babbo. They lose track of the bandits after making a quick get-away, but are directed by a fairy to the bandits' location. They catch up, and Ginta physical beats up two of the bandits. The third, revealing himself as the ringleader, introduces himself as Stanley, and activates his Weapon ÄRM, Necklace Blade. Ginta points out that using a weapon against an unarmed opponent was unfair and reasoned to have Babbo back to fight equally. Stanley doesn't fall for the trick, but immediately finds himself having to defend against Jack who activated his Battle Scoop and attacked. Ginta runs over to grab Babbo, and Stanley attempts to stop him, only to find himself unable to move. Ginta manages to retrieve Babbo from Stanley's bag and send him flying.
Just as they were about to celebrate, a mysterious older boy named Alviss appears. Alviss activates his Darkness ÄRM, Caged Bird, and turns Jack into a bird locked up in cage so he could speak with Ginta one-on-one. Belle, Alviss' fairy partner, flies over to mock Jack. He and Belle both watch Alviss battle Ginta and Babbo, where he tells them the reason he summoned Ginta to MÄR-Heaven and the threat of the enemy, the Chess Pieces. Their battle ensues all day and into nightfall, with Alviss as the winner. He and Belle decide to leave, and Jack turns back into a human by morning.
Jack helps Ginta and Edward the Dog into preventing the Chess Piece Rooks Ian and Loco from trying to claim Snow for the Chess Piece Queen Diana. During this time, Edward told Jack to hit him on the head with his Battle Scoop which helped into turning Edward into Alan. When the Knight Halloween came to recall Ian and Loco to Lestava Castle, Jack unwittingly blurted out that Ginta was from Earth.
Second Great MÄR Heaven War[]
To train for the upcoming battle with the Chess Pieces, Alan paired Jack up with Dorothy in the Training Gate, knowing a witch like her would have extra Magic Stones on hand to give to him and would make an excellent teacher. Dorothy lamented being paired with him, as she would've preferred being paired with Ginta rather than the "monkey". She is quick to get over it though, and makes the best of the situation. She took Jack on as an "apprentice" and gave him some extra Magic Stones, teaching him the ways of maximizing his ÄRM's potential. Dorothy does no training herself during this time, merely relaxing while overseeing Jack's training with Alan's Guardian ÄRM, Bumoru.
Dorothy and Jack are second to emerge from their gate to defend Alan against Ian and Gido. Gido targets Jack, as she thinks she can at least defeat the opponent with the lowest magic level. Dorothy tells Jack to take on the Pawn for looking down on him. Jack displays the results of his training by using his newly reforged Nature ÄRM, Earth Scoop, to perform an Earth Wave technique and repel her. Ian makes an offer to Ginta give him a Holy ÄRM if he allows them to retreat. Ginta accepts the offer, and after Ian and Gido leave, Ginta shows his new dog tag necklace that Snow etched made for him with the emblem for their new group. Dorothy questions why they don't just join the Cross Guard, and Snow tells them of the prophecy the Lestavan oracle gave to her. Snow declares that they shall form Team MÄR, a new group to fight the Chess Pieces in place of the tattered Cross Guard.
As Team MÄR crosses over the northern shores of the Hild Continent, they are attacked from the ground by Luberians led by Nanashi, believing them to be Chess Pieces, though he later realizes his mistake. Nanashi is quick to befriend Team MÄR, once he becomes excitable at the sight of Snow and a glimpse of Dorothy's exposed legs. He squeals over the two cute girls, voicing his desire to escort them rather than steal from them, before being pulled away by his followers to calm down. Jack sees Dorothy delight in her looks and reciprocates the opinion to Nanashi, feeling bummed that she still has no interest in him. Once Nanashi is settled, he properly introduces himself and fellow bandits, and invites Team MÄR to tag along with them back to their fortress. Ginta asks for Snow's input, and then accepts. Nanashi uses his Andata ÄRM to warp everyone back to Luberia Fortress.
Nanashi leads Team MÄR into the shambled first main hall and listens to their story. He reveals to them the state of the world. Nanashi also leads them to the cemetery behind the fortress, the graves of which commemorate those massacred by Peta. A bandit comes to inform Nanashi that the town of Vestry was under siege by the Chess. Nanashi then decides to join Team MÄR as the sixth member, and takes them to Vestry, where two Chess Pieces are causing another massacre. The surviving villagers inform them that the two Chess Pieces who attacked them were still there, delving into Vestry's littoral cave that contains an underground lake. Ginta, Babbo, Dorothy, and Nanashi volunteer to go after them while Jack, Snow, and Edward stay in the village to help.
War Games[]
In the preliminaries of the War Games, he managed to defeat a Pawn.
Round 1[]
As the match begins Pano observes that Jack doesn't seem as strong as Alviss and was disappointed by this revelation. Jack summons his Earth Scoop and it clumsily drops it straight into his foot, causing him to jump in pain. Pano believes this to be a ploy to drop her guard and immediately charges at Jack, slamming her Weapon ÄRM, Ball Hammer, into his chest. Jack recovers and quickly uses his Earth Scoop to block her rapid strike attacks the best he can, yet her attacks leave him no opportunity to launch a counterattack. Pano remarks that Jack is good at running away and reveals an ability of the Ball Hammer to separate from the shaft and be launched as a projectile. Jack dodges it but the launched ball changes its path with a U-turn and slams into the back of Jack's head. She explains to Jack that her Ball Hammer can separate and while separated homes in on its target.
Alviss and the audience begin to criticize Jack's strength and skill but both Ginta and Dorothy believe in his strength. Jack then pulls out seeds from his pocket and scatters them at his feet. He then reveals one of the abilities he gave his scoop using a magic stone he received from Dorothy and causes the seeds to sprout into a large series of vines that wrap up Pano. Jack climbs up the vines, inattentively putting his hand upon her right breast. She screams and calls him a pervert, with the audience chanting the accusation. Without realizing it, Pano then strikes Jack in his "family jewels" with her Ball Hammer, causing him to faint and thus lose his first match.
Aftermath[]
During the night after the first fight Ginta confesses to Babbo and Jack that his father was Danna, the previous person from his world to be sent to MÄR Heaven and the hero of the last War Games, and that he died fighting Phantom. Jack helps Ginta overcome this brief bought of depression by talking about his own father and they agree to avenge their dads. Gaira having overhead them takes them into the training gate to go stronger instead of competing in the 2nd round.
Round 2[]
After the end of the second round, Ginta, Babbo and Jack return from their training having grown stronger along with giving Babbo his 4th form. After deciding on the conditions for the next match Team MÄR along with the spectators celebrate their win outside. Ginta reveals his parentage to everyone to help inspire hope against the Chess, chugging a whole glass of Pupura Juice.
Round 3[]
Jack and Pano have a rematch in the second match of the third round. Before the match begins Pano belittles Jack for having lost to him in the first round but Ginta assures her that Jack isn't what he used to be. As soon as the battle begins Pano separates the ball portion from her weapon and attacks Jack by having it weave around while building up speed. Thanks to his training with Gaira during the second round, Jack can read the movements of the Ball Hammer. Pano goes in for the attack but Jack stops it with his hand, shocking Pano. He slabs the blade of his shovel into the ground making Pano believe that he's going to use his earth beans attack from their last battle. Jack leaves it in the ground as he leaves the shovel and approaches Pano without an ÄRM. Pano calls Jack a fool for abandoning his weapon and that she'll be taking a second win from him. She then splits her Ball Hammer into four segments and have them speed around the arena. Jack comments that he needs more training as he can only follow three of the four segments. He charges at Pano avoiding three of the segments only to be hit by the fourth right before he reached her. Pano comments he came close but Jack smirks and says he plan succeeded.
Suddenly sprouts start appearing on Pano's arm. Jack commands his ÄRM to make the sprouts grow and they immediately turn into Mararai Mushrooms, cause Pano to shriek in fear. Jack announces that this new attack is Magical Mushrooms, Type 1. Pano continues screaming she begins to hallucinate. In her hallucinations, the volcanos in the field start to violently erupt suddenly the visions change and she has worms crawling over her. Jack tells Pano that only he can remove those mushrooms. While he speaks to her, she hallucinates Jack to be absurdly handsome, falling in love at first sight and gives up immediately upon Jack's request. Jack blushes deeply as he's declared the winner, and picks of nearly all of the mushrooms before walking back to his team. However, one mushroom is still left on Pano's back, so she continues to hallucinate Jack as being incredibly attractive. She runs over to him to hug and kiss him on the cheek. As he playfully tries to hug back, he accidentally knocks the last remaining mushroom off of her back and she regains her sense of reality. Horrified, she backs away and calls him a perverted monkey, proceeding to kick him in the crotch once more out of anger.
Round 4[]
For the second match of the fourth round, Jack goes up against Kollekio. Without a moments hesitation Jack summons his Battle Scoop as soon as the battle starts meanwhile his opponent shuffles a deck of playing cards and throws one of the cards at Jack's feet, the Ace of Hearts. On the sidelines, Dorothy jokes to Jack that Kollekio had a crush on him, much to his horror. Embarrassed, Kollekio admits his mistake and throws another card at Jack's feet. The second card is the Joker, which foretells Jack's death. He goes on to explain that there is a reason Jack could never beat him in battle, at the same time he activates his Weapon ÄRM, Magic Hammer. After scattering some beans on the ground, Jack attempts to make them grow with his ÄRM, but is shocked when nothing grows from the planted seeds. Nanashi points out that the battlefield is ice so plants won't grow on it.
Kollekio charges at Jack and assaults him with a flurry of blows from his hammer, meanwhile Jack is blocking and avoiding all the hits. Kollekio comments he only needs a single shot, if he manages to hit Jack just once then the battle will be over. Suddenly Kollekio exclaims "What's that" and points behind Jack. Jack comments that he's not falling for that and Kollekio only comments that he thought Jack would fall for it and that he's skilled. With all other attempts to strike Jack with his Magic Hammer failing, Kollekio uses his Darkness ÄRM, Slowpoke, which drastically decreases Jack's mobility in exchange for the user's sight during the ÄRM's activation. Jack thinks back and remember Ginta fighting for MÄR Heaven because he likes it. Jack admits that since he is a simple farmer from a remote island he can't really answer in that manner but he is fighting for his mother who is waiting for his return on that island. He increases his magic so it radiates off him. Alviss yells at Jack that increasing his magic will only bring trouble, which it does. Kollekio senses his magic and attacks Jack finally striking him with the hammer.
After being hit Jack realizes the curse has been lifted and he can move again but quickly realizes to his horror that Kollekio now seems to be a towering giant. He explains that being hit with magic hammer once shrinks the opponent and then delivers a kick that strikes the tiny Jack's entire being and sends him flying. He goes on to say he's going to keep kicking Jack until he's dead, that he's not gonna be the loser and that he doesn't want to die like Mr. Hook. He deliver several giant kicks to Jack once again. Ginta yells at Alviss to do something to save Jack but he comments that everything will be alright if Jack can break the Magic Hammer or defeat the user. Both options are going to be difficult due to Jack's current size and the fact he can't use his earth beans. Jack comments that he isn't gonna lose, that dying will be the biggest disappointment to a parent and that she needs to watch him and that he's gonna survive and win. Jack analyses the situation and determines that his size is too small for any sort of effective attack and that such a size would also mean that magical mushrooms would have no effect either. Seeing a look on confidence on Jacks face annoys Kollekio and he goes for another kick against Jack. Jack however grips firmly to his boot and begins to climb up his leg, up his back and jumps off his chest. Jack throws something at Kollekio which he then swallows. Frightened, Kollekio ask Jack what he was just fed. Jack then uses his Battle Scoop to make the earth beans he just fed Kollekio grow and erupt from his mouth and incapacitate him.
Visiting Caldea, the Kingdom of Magic[]
When in Caldea, Jack received two Guardian ÄRMs.
Round 5[]
With Hamelin's defeat, Candice volunteered to go next, saying she couldn't let Team MÄR win anymore. Jack, despite initially being nervous, felt ready for battle once his turn came and prove he was a real man.
As soon as the battle begins Jack activates his Nature ÄRM, Earth Scoop, and Candice activates the Weapon ÄRM, Boulder Axe. Candice tells Jack that she wanted the praise Phantom would give her for defeating Ginta but she'll tolerate dealing with Jack instead. Candice lunges at Jack attacking with the Boulder Axe but Jack deflects it with his scoop. It that one exchange a small chip appears in Jack's scoop and he can tell that close combat is futile with Candice and backs away. He attacks with a rush of vines from his earth beans while Candice swaps out the axe for a new Nature ÄRM, Boulder Claw. Now equipped with two huge stone claws Candice rips the vines apart without breaking a sweat. Jack attempts to attack Candice with an Earth Wave hoping an attack that can't be cut up will have an affect. Candice lifts her eye patch, revealing a magic stone embedded into her eye, and uses the Kukan Teni spell to swap places with Jack, causing him to be hit by his own attack.
Candice taunts Jack as he comes to the conclusion that this is the strength of someone in the Knight class. Ginta cheers Jack on by telling Jack not to show his weakness and show everyone that he's a man, no longer a weak kid. Candice tells Jack that she'll show him someone who is strong and then unleashes yet another Nature ÄRM attack, Boulder Fang, that causes a series of spikes to erupt from the ground and attack Jack. Jack evades them but the attack doesn't stop there, the stones rise up into the air and then crash down upon Jack. Ginta is worried about the safety of Jack while Candice is enjoying the thought of Phantom watching her battle and strength. Candice tells Pozun to call the match, but before he can Ginta and Snow interrupt him both saying the fight isn't over.
At that moment, a series of vines come through the cracks where the boulders crashed together along with a bean pod. The pod splits in half and out comes an uninjured Jack, who explains that it's a variant of his earth beans, Bean Shield, a technique he developed for situations like this. Alviss comments that the Bean Shield was a clever idea considering his lack of brains, and Jack immediately retorts back.
Candice admits to Jack that he's more skilled than she gave him credit for and removes a bracelet type ÄRM from her wrist. She activates the Scales of Blessing and a large ÄRM with a clock-like face appears leaving Team MÄR to wonder what abilities this new ÄRM has. Jack, unafraid of what that ÄRM can do, goes all out against Candice launching yet another Earth Wave. Candice doesn't even attempt to evade the attack and gets hit hard. She has several cuts along her shoulders but strangely smiles and comments that it felt good. One of the hands of the clock moved. She summons yet another Nature ÄRM, Grand Boulder, only instead of attacking Jack, the boulder slams into Candice. Once again the face on the scale moves further. Candice once again seemingly enjoying the damage she has taken comments that a kid couldn't the pleasure she's experiencing. Ginta tells Jack that now is his chance to turn the tides in the battle. Alviss notices that Candice isn't evading Jack's attacks, she's intentionally taking them head on and purposefully injuring herself. Every time she takes damage the gauge on the scales moves further ahead. All the while Jack is attack Candice with everything he's got. Suddenly Alviss yells at Jack to stop attacking but it's too late, the hands of the scale complete a full revolution. As a result, Candice's magic power refills past her original maximum capacity, allowing her to summon her Guardian ÄRM, Gorgon.
Suddenly, the ÄRM on her barrette glows and a huge rock head of a woman who has snake hair appears and its eyes briefly glow as it stares at Jack. Suddenly Jack's legs begin to turn to stone. Candice explains that anyone who looks into Gorgon's eyes become stone, but required using the Scale of Blessing to convert physical damage into magic power for her to be able to summon this powerful guardian. Candice comments that the expression of fear coming from Jack is great as she relishes in his anguish. Realizing that Alice's powerful healing would have no effect on Jack since this petrification wasn't due to a Darkness ÄRM, Ginta screams Jack's name in despair.
Jack, still not fully stone, realizes he can still move his left arm and digs into his pocket for one of the two ÄRMs that he acquired from Caldea and pulls it out. Candice remarks that even though he's turning to stone he stopped showing the expression of despair that filled her with such pleasure. Jack states that he thought he was done for but hearing Ginta's voice made him realize he didn't want to part with his friend just yet. Jack immediately tosses the ring up in the air and activates it, his new Guardian ÄRM, Mehitos. A colossal Venus fly trap ensnares Candice in its jaws from underground, trapping her while one of the smaller sets of jaws snags the Gorgon ÄRM and destroys it. As the guardian vanishes and Candice falls to the ground she realizes that she can't move and apologizes to Phantom for failing him. The stone surrounding Jack begins to crack and then crumbles as Jack passes out. Since neither combatant can continue the fight, Pozun declares a draw.
Round 6[]
During the 6th Round, Jack was training in Gaira's Training Gate to become stronger.
Round 7[]
Jack volunteers to start the first battle of round 7 and exclusively challenges Vidar, the sixth strongest Knight of the Chess Pieces. Vidar happily accepts and enters the arena with Jack. Jack takes notice of the plant growing on Vidar's head as well as his tree-like staff and comments that Vidar has got to be a plant ÄRM master. Vidar ask Jack how old he is to which Jack responds, 14. Vidar mentions that that puts a 70 year age difference between them. Meanwhile Alan and Gaira on the sidelines say that this is a fated match up.
The match finally begins and Jack says that he doesn't want to fight an elderly man but that Jack also has no intention of losing. He rushes Vidar attacking with punches and kicks, which Vidar effortlessly avoids. Jack notices that he isn't going to make any progress in the fight with unarmed attacks and summons his Earth Scoop and delivers a blow to Vidar's body. Vidar ask where Jack obtained that scoop. Jack responds that it belonged to his father. Vidar tells Jack that he really is Jake's son and that in the previous war game Vidar and Jake were opponents and even though he was strong, he fell to Vidar. Vidar then activates his ÄRM, Seed Cannon, and fires various fruits and vegetables at Jack. As Jack avoids them Pano cheers for Jack commenting that she loves him.
Vidar activates a new ÄRM that causes plants to grow out of the arena floor. Jack comments that even though he is a plant master, he's never seen such plants before and touches one of the flower bulbs which causes a massive explosion. Alan yells at Jack to not leisurely touch the enemy's attack. Jack uses his scoop's technique Earth Wave to wipe out all the bomb plants and clear the arena. Vidar chuckles and says that Jack's father used the same move to clear out the bomb grass so he'll respond the same way he did in the first War Game. Vidar reaches into the foliage of his staff and pulls out a seed and activates Yggdrasil which causes an colossal tree to grow in the center of the arena.
Vidar begins climbing the tree while instructing Jack to follow him. While climbing, Vidar comments the it feels the exact same as when he fought Jake 6 years ago. Vidar then unleases another plant based attack on him, Dance of Leaves, which launches a storm of razor sharp leaves at Jack. Jack plants some sides in a crack in the tree and uses he scoop to grow them into vines which ensnare Vidar. Vidar comments how once again, Jack used the same technique as his father. Vidar then activates the ÄRM, Deadly Field, which causes all plants to wither with the exception of the one on top of his head. Jack comments that all he knows are plant based attacks but gets encouragement from Ginta on getting revenge for his father.
Vidar also counterattacks with the ÄRM, Snake Bough, which causes large branches with fangs to appear and charge at Jack. Jack activates his Guardian ÄRM, Mehitos, which summons the fly trap guardian to tear apart the Snake Bough, reducing them to splinters. Vidar is unaware of this guardian as Jake never had such an ÄRM. Regardless he throws himself right into Mehitos jaws which swallow Vidar whole.
Alan warns Jack that something is coming as Mehito's jaws begin to emit light. Suddenly Mehitos explodes as Vidar's tree-like Guardian ÄRM, Blight Bird, emerges and destroys Mehitos. Vidar informs Jack that this guardian causes all the plants Jack could attack with to wither and die. Vidar mentions this is the guardian that killed Jack's father, as he could do nothing to counter it. Jack, not giving up hope, tells Vidar that it isn't over yet and he still has the second ÄRM given to him by country of Caldea. Jack exclaims to Vidar that he knows the weakness of Vidar's guardian because the guardian's body is made up of a tree. Jack activates the Guardian ÄRM, Flame Demon, Folay. From the ÄRM emerges a tiny man with flaming hair. It jumps up to Vidar's guardian and and sets it aflame reducing it to ash, Folay then does the same to the tree Yggdrisil. Jack then tells Vidar to burn the last tree and sends Folay after the tree on Vidar's head. Vidar points at the plant and it immediately erupts into flames. Vidar collapses and congratulates Jack for realizing that the tree was the source of Vidar's magic power and tells Jack that he has now surpassed his father. As the audience celebrates Jack looks to the sky and tells his mother that Jake has been avenged.
After the War Games[]
Jack participated in storming Lestava Castle to rescue Snow from Diana.
MÄR Ω[]
Having been teleported to Pazurika Island by the mermaid of Mermaid's Island, Elisa is left to stay with a severely injured Kai while Babbo and Inga venture into the woods to find useful herbs and medicine. Jack comes upon the two and uses his Earth Scoop to sprout some medicinal beans for Elisa to feed Kai mouth-to-mouth. He then leaves to go back to his farm.
ÄRMs[]
Jack is a user of plant/earth-type ÄRMs:
- Battle Scoop/Earth Scoop: Battle Scoop is a Weapon ÄRM that originally belonged to Jake. As a Weapon ÄRM, it is plain and pitifully weak, but after Dorothy upgrades it with magic stones, it is converted into the Nature ÄRM, Earth Scoop.
- Earth Wave: Using the power of the magic stones, Jack's Battle Shovel sends out a small earthquake towards his opponent.
- Earth Beans: Jack scatters several small beans on the ground and uses his Battle Shovel to make them instantly grow into giant vines to snare his enemies.
- Magic Mushrooms: Jack spreads spores onto his enemy that quickly sprout into mushrooms. These mushrooms then emit hallucinogens into his enemy, causing them to see illusions.
- Bean Shield: Jack uses his Battle Shovel to instantly grow a giant, hollow bean that he can then hide inside to avoid attacks.
- Mehitos: From beneath the ground, this cephalotus Guardian bursts forth to Jack's summon and, under his commands, consumes all adversaries.
- Kikazoku Fire: Using a ruby-engraved ring Guardian ÄRM as a medium, Jack calls to his side a flame-haired cheery midget donning Arabian clothes with "at your service" manners and when the order for destruction is issued, it will practically reduce everything to ashes with its flame. He likely has his own will.
Trivia[]
- Jack is commonly referred to as a monkey due to his appearance, mannerisms, and his tendency to climb tall steep surfaces. The climbing aspect could be a trait shared with his fairy tale origins as Jack climbed the beanstalk to see what was in the clouds.
- Several plotlines from Jack in the Beanstalk are directly applied to Jack in MÄR, especially in the anime.
- He lives with his widowed mother on a farm.
- He plants magic beans that grow into a tall beanstalk high into the cloud tops where there is a castle.
- He defeats a giant.
- He avenges his late father. (In Peter and Iona Opie's 1980 version.)
