Girom (ギロム, Giromu; or Gillom in the video game) is a Bishop in the Chess Pieces and Rapunzel's younger brother.

Appearance[]

Girom is a boy around Ginta Toramizu's age with three eyes, two black iris with red pupils and the third on his forehead that seems to be painted on. He has purple spiked hair with three long black spikes and wears a steel choker around his neck. He has blue tattoos that go over his eyes and down his checks.

Personality[]

Girom has a psychotic personality. Girom has a fancy for killing, particularly women. Girom is quite confident in his abilities and likes showing off whenever he gets the chance. Girom believes that all Chess Pieces weaker than him are just tools, and once they lost must be "thrown away" (killed). Girom, however, is quite cowardly, and once it's clear he stands no chance in battle cowers and attempts to beg for forgiveness. Girom is also shown to be easy to anger.

Girom is very close to his sister, his love for her being his own redeeming quality. He was very devastated at witnessing her death and mourned her.

History[]

Girom, along with his older sister Rapunzel, were once part of a happy family. One day, however, their father died, and the mother changed and denied the children even food, and whipped them each day. This cruel and unusual punishment would seep into the children, giving them sadistic personalities. One day, however, the two killed their sleeping mother with an axe. They would go on to join the Chess Pieces, with the sister rising to the rank of Knight and the brother to the rank of Bishop.

Second Great MÄR Heaven War[]

Girom is first seen during the revival of Phantom alongside many other Chess Pieces. For beginning the second war, Girom was assigned to partner with Orco to attack the town of Vestry. After causing immense destruction, the two wandered into the village's cave, enticed by the local legend of a hidden ÄRM in Vestry's underground lake.

Soon after Ginta Toramizu and Tom show up, and, once Babbo reveals himself, Girom states that a "speck of dirt like [Ginta]" will never know how to use Babbo. When Ginta asks Girom if it was he who destroyed Vestry, Girom replies that Orco did the destroying, while he did the killing and states he enjoyed it. Ginta, angry, prepares to attack, though Girom fires ice bullets at Ginta before he can.

Ginta easily dodges these and continues to fight Girom. Girom eventually attempts to summon a giant boulder to crush Ginta, though Ginta summons Gargoyle, Babbo's 3rd form, before Girom gets the chance and crushes the boulder. Girom, realizing he can no longer win, asks for forgiveness, though Ginta replies that Girom wouldn't do that when the Vestrians asked to live, and neither will he, and thus had Gargoyle throw him into the lake.

War Games[]

Round 4[]

Girom finally makes his War Game debut in the fifth match of the fourth round and battles Ginta. After Rapunzel at some point tells Girom to kill Aqua for her draw with Nanashi, Ginta charges into battle before it officially begins. As Ginta rushes at Girom he launches and Iced Earth which Ginta defends against using Hammer ÄRM. Girom however fires off a huge Iced Earth which slams into Ginta but he throws it aside no problem. He then brings out Gargoyle to which Girom comments he's prepared an ÄRM to fight him with and activates his ring ARM guardian Egora, a giant ice titan. Gargoyle rushes and launches a punch that Egora blocks and then attacks with a punch of his own which hits Gargoyle.

Alviss comments that Ginta is fighting too emotionally and that he isn't bringing out much magic power because of it and in that condition Gargoyle can't win that way. Girom begins to brag that a victory for him isn't a contest. In the ice battlefield, his powers are magnified several times because he's an ice user and that during this fight he is equal to those in the knight class. He then criticizes Ginta for getting angry because he killed Aqua and is weak for sympathizing his enemies. He goes on to tell Ginta that if he begs forgiveness he may let him live. His anger reaching a peak he screams he would never apologize to a bastard like him and to go once more Gargoyle. Babbo reverts to his original for and slams into Gintas head telling him that he needs to get a hold of himself and his hotheadedness. Babbo understands why Ginta is so angry and that Girom is the lowest kind of person but because he provoked Ginta by killing Aqua his fighting style has gotten out of hand and if he can't cool his head he won't be able to win this fight. Ginta takes a long inhale followed by a long exhale to calm and collect himself. Having finally calmed down the thanks Babbo and Babbo saying that Girom is a brute who is beyond impudent and they need to kick his ass. Ginta calmly looks at Girom and tells him, he could try to beg for forgiveness but Ginta won't forgive him.

Agitated Girom ask Ginta just who does he think he's talking to and fires several massive Iced Earths. Ginta activates Bubble Launcher and fires off a swarm of Babbo bubbles that destroy all the Iced Earths easily. Ginta ask Girom why he's killing his own friends. Girom responds by shrieking that he doesn't see them as friends and that people are just tools to use and throw away and when a tool breaks you merely throw it away. Ginta simply replies to Girom that he feels sorry for him. Girom replies by saying that he feels sorry for Ginta and activate another ring Nature ÄRM, Crevasse. The very field they are standing on opens underneath Ginta, engulfing him and then sealing itself shut supposedly crushing Ginta. Girom brags that by making MÄR's captain a corpse that the War Games are over and the Chess are victorious. But before Girom can be proclaimed the winner the area where Ginta was swallowed up by the earth erupts and there stands Ginta surrounded by an apparent Jell-o mold. Ginta mentions that this is Babbo Version 5 Cushion Jelly and that regardless of the strength of the attack the jelly will absorb all of it.

Enraged by Ginta's survival Girom orders Egora to attack and Ginta once again summons Gargoyle only this time with a calm heart and mind. The two guardians clash fist and Girom exclaims that in the ice battlefield Egora can put out more than 100% of it's power, there's no chance of it losing. Dorthy and Alviss meanwhile can sense that Ginta is transferring magic power to Gargoyle and that not only is it rising rapidly, it's continuing to rise. Gargoyle then rips of Egora's arms and fires his finishing beam attack at the guardian, destroying it entirely and shattering it's ring form. Girom realizing defeat tells Ginta that he realizes he was wrong but Ginta simply tells him to think about it on his flight and sends him flying with a strike from Gargoyles hand and sends him flying off so far he disappears.

Aftermath[]

After the fifth round, the Knights are called into Phantom's room in Lestava Castle for a meeting. Despite the meeting being for the Knight class only, Rapunzel brings her little brother Girom with her in. Candice apologizes to Phantom for failing to win her match. Phantom kindly reassures her not to worry as he wasn't upset about it. Candice's expression changes to adoration as Ash raises his hand and speaks up, reminding that he also lost his match due to forfeit and offered himself to be punished. Phantom happily assures Ash that he wasn't mad with him either, as it was just part of who Ash was as a person. Phantom then specified that the only Knight who needed to be punished was Rapunzel, for her senseless murder spree of Chess teammates (including Aqua) without Phantom's permission during the fourth round. Girom attempted to defend his sister's actions, but quickly backed off when Phantom gave him a cold glare. Phantom offered her a chance to save herself by dueling against a Rook named Ian. Despite being insulted that a mere Rook was chosen to deliver punishment to Knight such as herself, she accepts the challenge.

Girom and the remaining Knights go outside to the surface below where the castle floated to observe the duel between Rapunzel and Ian. She offers Ian the first move, but his silence causes her to underestimate him further and makes the first move by activating her Nature ÄRM, Ice Spikes. He jumps in the air to avoid the initial attack, though allows Rapunzel to use her Spike Sandwich technique on him. Girom cheers on his sister while belittling Ian for his rank. As he walks up to his sister, the ice glows from inside and Ian instantly breaks free. The siblings are blown back, with Girom falling over on the ground while Rapunzel manages to hold her footing. Shocked that he broke out unscathed, Rapunzel frustratingly states that she's changed her mind and intends to give him a painful death. She activates her Nature ÄRM, Hair Master, but Ian not only dodges the hair spikes but also brushes one off into a nearby tree, showing he is not in the least bit threatened by the assault. He continues to dodge each strike as he runs and jumps toward her, landing on the ground a few meters away. Confused that he put himself in better range for her to accurately him, she tries again to strike him, but he immediately burns the ends of her hair. Rapunzel realizes the fatal mistake she's made in underestimating him once she figures out that Ian was suppressing his magic power since he first appeared before her. Before she can react, Ian immediately incinerates her with one attack, killing her in front of Girom's eyes. Therefore indirectly avenging Aqua, Mr Hook, Kollekio & Avrute. Horrified and distraught, Girom runs to his sister's body and cries out while the remaining Knights watch Phantom promote Ian to the Knight class.

After the War Games[]

Following the War Games, Girom, along with the Knights Kouga and Pinocchion, attack Caldea in hopes of kidnapping its Grand Elder. Ginta, Alviss, and Dorothy, however, show up and defeat the three before they succeed.

During the end credits to the final episode, he is last seen atop Kung Fu frog in a natural hot spring with Pinocchion and Kouga, discussing battle strategies.

ÄRMs[]

Girom's ÄRMs are:

  • Iced Earth: A ring Nature ÄRM and Girom's signature ÄRM, used to fire shards of ice at the enemy. Some translations refer to this ÄRM as Ice Doors, due to the Japanese pronunciation (凍らされた地球 Āisudo Asu/Āisu Doasu). It has the following other abilities:
    • Iced Earth: Sword Version: Girom forms ice around his arm into the form of a big icicle he can use as a sword.
    • Iced Earth: Claw Version: Like Sword Version except it takes the form of a claw.
    • Mega Iced Earth: Girom forms a giant boulder made of ice and hurls it at his enemy.
    • Big Iced Earth: The exact same thing as the initial usage, though it has much larger bullets, though not as large as Mega Iced Earth.
  • Crevasse: A ring Nature ÄRM that creates a giant crevice beneath targets and plunges them through its endless depths.
  • Egola: A ring Guardian ÄRM, summons a giant made of ice to attack the user's enemies. This giant's power increases in areas covered in ice. Destroyed by Gargoyle.
  • Argo Talos: A Guardian ÄRM, summons a sphere-shaped chunk of ice that shoots energy beams at the enemy. He uses this when he attacks Caldea.
