"Ian will definitely save me one day. I will believe in him and wait."
―Gido to Chimera

Gido (ギド, Gido) is a Pawn of the Chess Pieces and Ian's girlfriend.

Appearance[]

Gido has short, spikey tangerine colored hair that is dyed jasmine on the ends. Like Loco, her tangelo eyes lack pupils. She wears a light orange button vest, light yellow arm sleeves, brown capris, and flat shoes.

After leaving the Chess, she wears a orange cropped tank-top, brown shorts with red belts, and orange ankle slip-on shoes with blue knee-high socks.

Personality[]

Gido has a kind and gentle temperament, which is rare amongst the Chess Pieces. She often puts the needs of others before her own and has faith in those whom she shares a deep bond with.

History[]

Six-Year Interlude[]

Gido and Ian joined the Chess Pieces some time after first war ended as Pawns. Eventually, Ian was promoted to the Rook Class and earned his pierce. Gido congratulated him, stating she would catch up to him soon in rank. Both of them strived to become Knights in the future, and have active roles in purifying the world once Phantom revived.

Second Great MÄR Heaven War[]

Gido accompanied Ian in his search for Ginta Toramizu, disobeying orders. After collecting information at a pub in Pelica Port, they track down Alan in the forest, who had been guarding two Gate of Training doors for three days. Alan's sleep deprivation causes him to be significantly weaker, barely being able to endure Ian's attacks with his new Weapon ÄRM. Ian asks where Ginta was and Alan suggests that he's hiking. Gido attempts to intervene to make Alan tell the truth, but Ian gestures her to stop, continuing to make small talk with Alan. Eventually, Ginta and Snow emerge from their gate and step in to defend Alan. She continues to observe as Ginta repels Ian's attacks and punches him in the gut.

Once Dorothy and Jack emerge from their gate, Gido steps in to defend Ian. He tries to talk her out of it, but she instructs him to heal himself with his Holy ÄRM while she buys him time. Gido states that she's aware she's no match for them, but it would not obstruct her desire to protect him and that he had the potential to become a Knight one day. Gido targets Jack, as she thinks she can at least defeat the opponent with the lowest magic level. Dorothy tells Jack to take on the Pawn for looking down on him. Gido charges forward, but Jack immediately sends her flying back with an Earth Wave attack. Ian hobbles over to Gido to assess her condition. Ian offers Ginta a deal: let him use his Holy ÄRM, Healing Angel, to heal Gido and then hand it over to Ginta in exchange for allowing them to leave. Alan comments how sympathetic Ian was for a Chess Piece to want to heal a lowly Pawn, not understanding their relationship. Ginta accepts the offer, and Ian proceeds to sit Gido up, pulling back her hood and removing the mask to reveal that she was a woman. Gido apologizes to Ian as he heals her, but he says nothing. After he finishes healing her, he acknowledges his defeat to Ginta but states his intent to win next time before tossing the Holy ÄRM to him. The two warp back to Lestava Castle.

Chimera Punishing Gido 3

Chimera about to punish Gido.

Due to Ian's loss to Ginta and ignoring Phantom's orders, Halloween arranges for Chimera to see to Gido's punishment in place of Ian's. She questions Gido about not being afraid despite the unknown horror that would be inflicted. Gido responded that she had faith Ian would eventually save her, and would patiently wait. Chimera used a Ghost ÄRM that ended up transforming Gido into a creature with her body fused with tentacles, unable to speak.

War Games[]

Ian visits Gido after he had slain Rapunzel and became a Knight. She tried to reach her hand up towards Ian's newly acquired Knight earring and, despite not being able to speak, attempted to smile. Ian broke into tears behind his mask, agonizing at her suffering.

After the War Games[]

Chimera, exhausted from being chased and attacked by Ian, stumbles her way into Gido's prison cell in Lestava Castle. She kneels down to Gido, asking if she remembered the day they first spoke to each other, before lifting her up by the neck to strangle her. Chimera delights in teasing Gido about her "trust" in Ian coming to her rescue, before painfully recalling her own past when Marco never came back for her. Chimera laments that it's still worthless to wait, and that no matter how much she trusts him, Marco won't come. Suddenly Ian barges open the door, ordering Chimera to let go of Gido. Chimera drops Gido to the ground to face Ian, questioning if he has what it takes to kill her. Chimera prepares to use Gido as a hostage, asking Ian if Gido was really that important to him. Ian nods in response and Chimera challenges him to take her back himself. Ian easily cuts through Chimera's attack and slashes at her chest, revealing the Ghost ÄRM she used to curse Gido connected by Chimera and Marco's wedding rings. Chimera then offers the ÄRM to Ian, affirming that she was only handing it over as a way of "cursing" Ian and Gido to living in such a trashed world that she had long since given up on. As Ian breaks the Ghost ÄRM to heal Gido, Chimera looks back while lying on the floor, and sees herself and Marco in them. She gently smiles and peacefully dies.

Walking together out of the dungeon, Gido helps a tired Ian by putting his arm over her shoulders while wearing his coat. Hearing voices outside, Ian glances out of the castle window and sees Team MÄR ready to assault the castle to rescue Snow. Ian's happy reaction confuses Gido, prompting her to ask what was going on. Ian promised to to tell the story later. Ian sweeps Gido off her feet to carry her, planning to use the chaos from the castle assault as their cover for escaping, officially leaving the Chess Pieces.

Ian continues carrying Gido through the woods while looking for a place to hide where he loses his footing at the top of steep slope and the two slide down into a ditch. They see refugees on the road being directed by Ash, who they quickly befriend. He takes them in under his care as they help the refugees rebuild Edel Mine, a settlement that Ash used to govern.

King of the Chess Pieces[]

While Ash sends Ian to bring back Ginta for help on a task, Gido gathers firewood outside in the refugee camp and listens to the conversations of the villagers. Two adults worry about the safety of the camp with it being close to so many holes of dimensional distortions. One man refers to Ash as "that bossy Chess", angering a group of kids also listening in. One tosses a rock at the adults, telling them not to speak ill of Ash whom they love, but the man snaps back, causing them to scatter. Gido watches them before her attention turns to the sky, seeing Ian returning with Ginta, Babbo, Dorothy, Alviss, and Belle.

That evening, Gido uses a communication earring to contact Ian, alerting him that some of the children wandered away from the camp. Ian and Team MÄR go to fetch the children and return them back to the camp. Gido and Alviss sit silently as Dorothy puts the children to bed in the next room of the house. Dorothy asks Gido what she intends to do once the crisis is over. Gido admits uncertainty, for while she would like to continue living with Ian in Edel Mine, she believes the villagers will never truly accept them due to having been part of the Chess.

The next day, Ash and Team MÄR attempt to close the largest hole to have opened up yet near the town. Gido stays in the house with Belle to protect and comfort the children. One boy angerly runs up to the cracking window and yells for Team MÄR to go home. Gido pulls the boy away from the window, confused by the boy's attitude. The boy states that Team MÄR didn't do anything before when the town was attacked by the Chess. Gido tells the boy that right now they are fighting for them, just like Ash. She holds the boy tightly and apologizes, and he calls her "big sister".

The day after Ash is killed by the King of the Chess, Gido bandages Ian's injuries, lacking a Holy ÄRM to use. Gido tells Ian that the children are in town helping the adults with rebuild, just as Ash would. Ian comments that the kids are more focused than he is, feeling shame for Ash's sacrifice because of his own lack of strength and determination. Gido reassures him that the children won't be mad. She then expresses her desire to not fight anymore, instead to live peacefully in the village with the children. Ian silently agrees, leaning in for a kiss, before being interrupted by the arrival of Jack.

Ian gives Jack directions to where Ginta and the others went to, while Gido helps outside with construction. Ian offers Jack his Andata and Gido's Magic Carpet, stating that they no longer needed them. He then joins Gido and the other villagers in construction work, seeking to carry on in Ash's place. The two later offer their magic power through the dimensional rift to Ginta and Babbo as they battle against Caldea's Orb in Tokyo.

Happily Ever After - Ian and Gido

Ian and Gido living a peaceful life in Ash's village.

After the defeat of the King of the Chess, Gido and Ian are among the handful of former Chess Pieces who see Ginta and Danna off in their return to Earth.

Happily Ever After[]

They are seen together again in their house in Edel Mine, often visited by Ash and the village children and presumably finally accepted by the villagers.

ÄRMs[]

Gido is known to own two ÄRMs:

  • ???: An unnamed Weapon ÄRM in the form of a lance she arms herself with to attack Jack.
  • Magic Carpet: A Dimension ÄRM used to fly on for transportation.

Trivia[]

  • Gido is the only named Pawn of the Chess to have never received a class promotion by the time of the second war.
