Garon (ガロン, Garon) is a Bishop in the Chess Pieces.

Appearance[]

Personality[]

Garon is a silent and large but honorable man. He cares deeply for his children and will protect them at any cost. He is very confident in his abilities.

Etymology[]

Garon's given name is derived from the French surname Garon, meaning "guardian", just as he guards his two children. The family name, Rodkin, is of Jewish origin.

History[]

Garon, at some point in his life, had two children, Leno and Pano. He was quick to train his two children how to use ÄRMs. Leno, however, was angry that, while his father had powerful ÄRMs, he would only get weaker ones. One day, while the children were in the woods, a monstrous bear appeared and was about to attack the children. Garon rushed in and fought the animal off. The children hugged their father, yet only Pano notices that he fought the bear without any ÄRMs equipped.

Later, Garon and Pano observe Leno sparring with a Chess Pawn. The Pawn easily knocks Leno back, but Garon instinctively jumps in and punches the Pawn. He asks Leno if he was alright, but Leno gets up and complains about not having a stronger ÄRM to use before running off. Pano calls out to him but is told by her father to leave him be, as he needed to learn on his own where true strength comes from.

Second Great MÄR-Heaven War[]

War Games[]

Round 1[]

Garon and his children are introduced by Pozun as the Rodkin (ロドキン, Rodokin) Family, and the first team from the Chess to compete in the War Games.

Garon watches as Alviss toys with his son in the first match, commenting that Leno is no match for Alviss. When Leno is defeated in the first match, Garon steps onto the arena to pick Leno up and carry him off. Leno apologizes to his father, who then instructs Pano to go next. Pano assures her brother that she'll avenge his defeat as their father sits Leno down under the shade for a bit of rest.

Upon Pano's victory over Jack, she runs happily to hug her father, who sternly yet proudly hugs back. Garon tells his daughter he'll handle the rest as he steps back onto the arena for his turn.

Garon faces Ginta Toramizu for the third match of the first round. Garon comments he pities Ginta, he only has a team of six people and that a mere child is captain of the team. On top of it Ginta's first opponent is him. This doesn't deter Ginta as he activates the first of the magic stones equipped to Babbo revealing the ability Babbo, Version 1: Hammer ARM. Ginta charges in and strikes him repeatedly on Garon's body and head with absolutely no effect. Garon hits Ginta with a single punch that sends him flying across the ring and reveals the ÄRM he's using. Five rings of the Nature ÄRM, Body Hardener, on one hand and five rings of the Nature ÄRM, Stronger Body, on the other hand. Alviss notes that the ability to use ten ÄRMs at once would make Garon higher than a bishop in the Chess ranks. Ginta then reveals the next form he's given Babbo, Version 2: Bubble Launcher and fires several Babbo shaped bubbles at him. They all impact Garon and explode on contact. Garon is surround by flames but only scraped up at the most from the attack. He then closes the distance between him and Ginta and delivers a punch that lands Ginta flat.

Garon declares that the War Games are over already and Phantom never even had to show himself. But Ginta stands, not ready to give up yet and begins to concentrate and focus his magical energy for his final Babbo, Version 3: Gargoyle. Garon smiles as it looks like he gets to overpower a Guardian. Gargoyle then launches a punch but Garon blocks it and seems to hold his own as the ring cracks beneath his feet. Ginta comments that he'll never forgive the Chess who take delight in killing countless people and puts all of his power into Gargoyle. Despite Garon's effort he is defeated by the guardian as all ten of his ÄRMs crack and shatter. Garon is pushed back further and coughs up blood. Before Gargoyle delivers a finishing blow, Pano leaps onto the arena and puts herself in between the two, begging Ginta to spare their father's life as they were satisfied with him losing the match. Leno joins his family on the arena, helping his father stand and tells him that he now understood where true strength comes from. Ginta accepts the surrender, and Pozun declares Ginta as the winner.

Aftermath[]

Much later, Garon and Ash converse with Rolan over his upcoming battle with Alviss the night before the final battle. Garon also points out that Alviss also has an explosive ÄRM.

Garon and his family watch the final match between Ginta and Phantom. Following Phantom's defeat to Ginta, the family, along with most other Chess Pieces there, immediately return to Lestava Castle. The family decides to quickly gather their luggage and promptly flee the castle, not waiting for the Queen of the Chess to make an announcement regarding the fate of the Chess.

After the War Games[]

In the anime, the family eventually makes their way to Acalupa Port and find temporary refuge in a vacant cottage in the woods outside of the town. The family makes plans to hide out on a deserted island to avoid persecution for being Chess Pieces. While his daughter heads into the market itself to steal food and supplies needed for the journey, Garon and his son head for the harbor to find a boat to steal.

Suddenly, the weather outside changes, and a mysterious masked man attacks the harbor, killing several villagers and gravely wounding Leno and Garon. Leno carries his father and limps back to the cottage where his sister was with several members of Team MÄR. Before they can say anything to Pano, their bodies disintegrate into dark matter and evaporate, much to her horror.

After the King of the Chess is defeated and killed, all of those whom he killed are revived, including Garon and Leno. At the end of the anime, Garon and his son are seen at Jack's farm hiding behind a pair of talking rocks, giving a non-verbal approval of his daughter dating Jack.

ÄRMs[]

Garon's ÄRMs are:

  • Stronger Body: Nature ÄRM, a ring that enhances one's strength. Garon has five of these.
  • Body Hardener: Nature ÄRM, a ring that hardens one's body. Garon has five of these.

Trivia[]

  • Garon's family name, Rodkin, is also shared with Loree Rodkin, a famed American jewelry designer, despite he and his children wearing very few ÄRM accessories.
